Our latest customer spotlight features Dale’s Coyote-swapped 1970 Ford F100 Sport Custom. Dale’s connection with the 1970 F100 project began five decades ago. It took quite a bit of energy and effort to transform the truck into what you see here. And he did it in less than 6 months!

The Heart of the Build

The centerpiece of this project was the installation of a Gen I Coyote engine from a 2014 F-150, paired with a 6R80 automatic transmission, replacing the factory 300 CID straight 6 cylinder workhorse that had performed admirably up to this point. Coyote swaps are becoming more and more popular in the F100 world, and it works well in this vintage bumpside.

Dale chose to go with a PBH Gen 1 Coyote Body Harness (avoiding a pricey control pack), as well as a PBH Gen 1 6R80 Transmission Harness to get all of the electronics to play nice with the vintage chassis and make the swap as simple as possible in regards to wiring.

The Chassis

Quite a bit of customization took place with the chassis too. A Crown Victoria suspension replaced the twin I-beam setup in the front, which turned out to be one of the most challenging parts of the build. A 4-link rear end with Crown Vic differential replaced the OEM parts in the rear. The truck was originally a long bed, which Dale chopped and converted to a short bed.

The Interior

Inside the cab lives a customized center console pulled from a 2014 F-150, along with seats from a 2021 Challenger, and a Bose 8-speaker stereo system powered by a Pyle head unit. It gives the interior a mix of modern convenience and comfort with vintage style and utility. Vintage Air keeps the temperature comfortable on the hot days.

It’s very impressive to see how much was done in such a short time. And though we’re sure Dale has more planned for this truck, he’s already got the foundation in place for a fun, dependable daily driver.
